Google To Unveil Broad New Social Product Tomorrow

Google is planning to unveil a broad new social product on Tuesday that will integrate with at least two existing Google products. Some details emerged earlier today on the Wall Street Journal (“a new feature that makes it easier and faster for users of Gmail to view media and status updates”), but our understanding is that the product goes well beyond a Gmail integration. As I wrote last night , there is still a lot of room for improvement in online social services.

Deutsche Telekom rumored to be eyeing T-Mobile USA spinoff

Not a week goes by that we don’t hear of investor pressure on Deutsche Telekom to strengthen its financials and offload underperforming units — T-Mobile USA included — and the American outpost is back in the spotlight this evening coming off a report out of The Wall Street Journal that a spinoff might indeed be in the works.

Major textbook pubs partner with ScrollMotion for iPad development

Putting traditional print publication on an iPhone screen is old hat for ScrollMotion , and now it’s taking that know-how to a larger screen. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Kaplan, Pearson Education, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt K-12, and the educational sector of McGraw-Hill have all made deals with the company to develop textbook apps and test-prep / study guide apps for the Apple iPad.

Budget puts NASA’s moon program on ice, promises to ‘blaze a new trail of discovery’

It may only represent a smidgen of the multi-trillion dollar annual federal budget, but funding for NASA never fails to stir up debate, and that looks like it’ll be the case more than ever with the Obama administration’s just-announced 2011 budget. While NASA’s budget will actually increase slightly to $19 billion, the big news is that Constellation moon program started by the Bush administration in 2006 (with the goal of returning by 2020) is being shelved amid what amounts to a fairly big change in priorities for NASA
